HealthActions - Our Story

The HealthActions story is one deeply interwoven with friends, families, colleagues and communities all partnering together as they strive for better health and a better future. To us, it's about a vision: To see our patients living their lives to the fullest as they are no longer held captive by their pain or limitations.

HealthActions was founded in Clarke County in 1981 by physical therapists, Beth Whitehead, PT, MPH and Debbie Powell, PT, OCS. As Movement Specialists, they worked to identify and correct movement problems while at the same time providing patient education and lifestyle modification support to make a true difference in people's lives.

Throughout these 3 decades, HealthActions owners have strived to develop themselves, other therapists, licensed assistants, exercise professionals and support staff to be "their best." Tremendous time, effort, and resources have been spent staying abreast of the latest research and best treatments to help our patients, families and friends have better health for better living.

HealthActions - Our Approach

At HealthActions, our unique approach is a combination of hands-on, manual therapy and functional movement exercises. Studies prove that hands-on treatment gets the best results and when your body moves better, you feel better.

Our four phase model of care has a goal to move each patient along a continuum of care where they can obtain and sustain optimal movement and health.

Phase 1- Calm the patient's movement system by getting symptoms under control and manageable by movement-based or manual/mechanical methods.

Phase 2- Restore muscle and joint balance for optimal functional movement.

Phase 3- Improve and normalize functional activity capacity, tolerance and endurance.

Phase 4- Establish an appropriate exercise/activity program tailored to the individual to encourage and maintain their state of wellness that has been achieved during these four phases.
