Dr. Jim York, board certified anesthesiologist, along with team members Tom Farrar and John Brown, both certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA), have a unique skill set and the extensive knowledge and experience required to deliver anesthesia. Our providers offer the safe and compassionate care that Troy Regional patients expect and deserve.
These days, the role of the anesthesia team extends beyond the operating room where they not only deal with surgical anesthesia intra-operatively, but also manage postoperative pain, chronic pain associated with cancer, and respiratory therapies.
An honor graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. York achieved his Doctor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland. Upon completing his internship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Dr. York was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation for a year. He returned to San Diego to complete his residency and fellowship training in cardiothoracic anesthesia and in critical care medicine. Dr. Jim York has been practicing anesthesiology since 1985 and became a member of the Troy Regional medical staff in 2016.
Tom Farrar, CRNA, graduated with an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Troy State University in Montgomery in 1990. Farrar completed his Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist degree in 1995 from Manley L. Cummins School of Nurse Anesthesia at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Farrar has more than 25 years of diverse experiences as a CRNA. He has been at Troy Regional for over 20 years.
John L. Brown, CRNA, graduated from Austin Peay State University Clarksville, Tennessee in 1983. Brown completed the Gooding School of Nurse Anesthesia at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Florida in 1986. Having more than 34 years of diverse CRNA experience, Brown has also been at Troy Regional for over 20 years.
The Troy Regional anesthesia team continues to focus on excellence in all areas for their scope of practice customizing an anesthetic plan that meets the needs of the patient both during surgery and managing the patient in the post-operative care unit. At Troy Regional Dr. York, Farrar, and Brown provide 24-hour coverage for emergency as well as scheduled surgeries.
