COMMUNITY MESSAGE – APRIL 26, 2021

It’s been over a year since the first lockdown for the Corona virus occurred. Since then, over 596,000 people have died in the United States. There have been almost 11,000 deaths in Alabama alone. The statistics are slowly improving and with vaccine distribution and continued precautions, it is easy to feel a sense of freedom and normalcy. Take for example the beautiful weather this past Sunday, allowing wonderful outdoor activities such as Troy Fest and a double header at Riddle/Pace Field for Trojan Baseball. We are all anxious to resume the activities that we have always enjoyed. However, we still need to look beyond our own backyards and pay attention to what is happening in the United States and other countries. India is currently experiencing a wave of devastating corona virus outbreak. Their hospitals are again at capacity, medications are running out and aid is slow to materialize. What is happening in other countries can often be a precursor to what can happen in the United States.

To avoid another wave, we need to continue practicing precautionary measures to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Vaccinations, hand washing, wearing a mask especially indoors are all important ways to keep a downward trend for outbreaks in our community.

The Pike Medical Foundation Balloon Launch will take on a virtual format this year to ensure community safety. The “launch” will be televised on Troy Cable starting at 3pm on May 13th. Tickets for this fundraiser are available by calling any member of the Pike Medical Foundation or by calling Troy Regional at 670.5412. Tickets are $100 each and your contribution is tax deductible, and your support is very appreciated.

Do your part and stay smart. We will get through this time together.
